A short trip to Salt Lake City turned out to be a nightmare for the Las Vegas Aviators as five games were condensed into three days because of weather issues. Las Vegas won the first game on Saturday, but then lost the next four against the last-place Bees.
Now they come home to meet up with the Albuquerque Isotopes for a short four-game homestead beginning tonight. All four games begin at 7:05 p.m.
The Aviators come into to the game at 24-18 while the Isotopes are 23-22, only a game behind the Aviators for second place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Southern Division. Albuquerque is coming off a series victory over first-place El Paso, winning three of five games at home.
The Isotopes are the Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. Corner infielder Brian Mundell currently leads the team with a .385 average while right fielder Sam Hilliard has 13 home runs and 40 runs batted in. Tim Melville, who will start the opener for the Isotopes against the Aviators tonight, is 2-0, with a .90 earned run average in his two starts this season.
The pitching matchup for tonight is Melville facing the Aviators’ Jake Buchanan, who is 2-1 with a 6.37 ERA. None of the other pitching matchup for the series have been announced.
